I was very pleased to be able to post the translation of Karl Schwarzschild's
paper Ueber Messung von Dopplesternen durch Interferenzen, provided to me by Rudolf Danner. This paper is the first example of optical interferometry applied to the
measurement of binary stars, and predates by 24 years the efforts
of J.A. Anderson [Ap.J. 51, 263-275 (1920)] at Mnt Wilson.
In the next month or so I will start translating the French language papers
included in
Selected Papers on Long Baseline Stellar Interferometry, beginning with Fizeau's report
on the Bordin Prize of 1867. Fizeau writes the most amazing single-sentence
paragraphs, so my efforts in translating should occupy most of my
time spent on the OLBIN site. Have patience with me if the news seems to
suffer as a result.
The OLBIN pages have remained mostly my own playpen for matters relating to
Optical/Infrared Stellar Interferometry. I would be pleased to receive
more feedback and suggestions for how to develop the pages further.
Barring that, I will continue to make incremental changes to the pages as I have in the past.
As always, I look forward to your contributions.
Peter R. Lawson.
