Fundamental Properties of Stars

Christian A. Hummel (U.S. Naval Observatory)
Abstract:
The most fundamental parameters of stars are their masses,
luminosities, and radii. In my talk, I will review methods to determine
these parameters as well as give an overview of currently
available highly accurate data. I will discuss specific examples and
the comparison of derived parameters with stellar evolution
models. Useful equations and calibrations will be provided. Finally,
an outlook will be presented with an emphasis on the role played
by optical interferometers.
