First fringes on the E1-E2 Baseline of the CHARA ArrayText by Theo ten Brummelaar, 25 July 2002
Antonin Remond, Nils Turner, Theo ten Brummelaar, and Vincent Coude du Foresto CHARA found first fringes using the two telescope E1/E2 last Monday night [22 July 2002] at about 11pm. After solving a problem with the tip/tilt system we started a scan and found the fringes after only about 1 minute into the first scan. They where some 8 cm from the model position. Tuesday night we collected data for the baseline solution and got a residual of about 500 um RMS. The operational baselines for CHARA are now:
