VLTI: March 9, 2007
I was at the VLTI as part of an organized tour on the occasion of the ESO workshop on Observing Planetary Systems. (You can view my own talk on NASA's Roadmap to Other Earths, on the video stream starting at about 06:52 on Day 4.) The photographs show my trip to Paranal on the Friday of that week. Although I didn't have the opportunity to visit the labs, I did see one of the Auxiliary telescopes being moved (photos 7209-7237 and 7256). Here you'll find photos of that telescope, as well as shots of its optics box being dropped into its new position (photos 7257 and 7258). There is also a panorama that I haven't yet stitched together (photos 7246-7250).
You can see the Pacific ocean in the background of photos 7175 and 7178.
Pierre Hagnenaur and Christian Hummel were there, and are shown in photo7262.
I've included here two Google map views Paranal, first a view with coast of Chile, and also a
close up view.
Peter Lawson.
